The Director General of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA), Julius D. Dennis, Jr., has returned to Liberia after leading a delegation to the 35th Ordinary Plenary Session of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. He was joined by Daniel Johnson, Deputy Secretary General for Administrative Affairs at the Roberts Flight Information Region (RFIR).
The triennial conference, spanning from November 26 to 29, featured plenary sessions, commemorations of the Yamoussoukro Decision, and a High-Level Ministerial Meeting. Key outcomes included AFRICA’s commitment to collaborate with Liberia in addressing issues highlighted in the recent International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit. The commission emphasized the urgency of Liberia’s aviation goals and called on all stakeholders to support the LCAA’s collective efforts.
On the sidelines, Director General Dennis engaged in high-level bilateral discussions to enhance Liberia’s aviation infrastructure. Singapore’s Ministry of Transport, represented by special envoy Bernard Lim, agreed to provide training assistance, with further arrangements to be finalized. Additionally, talks with Saeed Mohammad Al Sawaidi from the UAE’s ICAO delegation set the stage for a Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Liberia and the UAE.
Further collaborative commitments emerged from discussions with aviation leaders from Morocco, Egypt, Korea, and Japan, all pledging follow-up actions to support Liberia’s aviation sector.
AFCAC, as the African Union’s civil aviation authority and executor of the Yamoussoukro Decision and Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Africa’s aviation standards.
Following the conference, the LCAA delegation joined Liberia’s Minister of Transport, Hon. Sirleaf R. Tyler, in Addis Ababa to witness the inaugural Ethiopian Airlines flight to Liberia on November 30, 2024.
