Monrovia – Acting commerce minister Scholarstica Nimley has announced plans for the hosting of a conference on small and medium business enterprises.
At a stakeholders meeting Monday, Madam Nimley named the sector as an important driver of the Liberian Economy, and should not be forgotten.
The acting Commerce Minister further reiterated the need to strengthen SMEs, thus calling on public, private and donor organizations to support the pending conference.
The conference on SME is a flagship undertaking by the Ministry of Commerce to promote and support Liberian own business.
The conference slated for the first week in December is expected to be grace by President Joseph Boakai and stakeholders in the sector, including; businesses in the informal sector.
The SMEs conference is an annual event, organize by the Commerce Ministry, but has not been held since 2016, due to the lack of political will for the past six years.
Also attending the stakeholders meeting were World Bank, UNDP, Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Liberia Business Association and the Liberia Business Registry among others.
The Acting Commerce Minister praised President Boakai for demonstrating the political will in promoting and supporting SMEs, thereby giving the Commerce Ministry the green light to host the flagship conference.
