Referencing two separate communications from his office dated February 19, 2024 and June 17, 2024 respectively, and placed on the agenda, they were left in committee rooms.
Capitol Hill, Monrovia – Bong County District #4 Representative Robert Womba has described as false and misleading recent news in the public that Lawmakers who signed a resolution to remove House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa are doing so to prevent a proposed audit of the House of Representatives initiated by Speaker Koffa.
Representative Womba told journalists at his Capital Building Office Wednesday that since the incision of the 55th Legislature, members have always requested and supported any process calling the conduct of a comprehensive audit of the House, but stated that these efforts have allegedly been stopped by Speaker Koffa.
Referencing two separate communications from his office dated February 19, 2024 and June 17, 2024 respectively, Representative Womba said though his letters were received by the Chief Clerk and placed the agenda, he alleged that Speaker Koffa used political tactics to send them to committee rooms without deliberations.
Representative Womba intoned that in the first Communication dated February 19, he request the Plenary of the House of Representatives, through the Office Speaker Fonati Koffa to hair the services of an independent auditing firm like the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), or the General Auditing Commission(GAC) to conduct a payroll audit of employees of the Central Administration of the House of Representatives, while the second communication dated June 17, 2024 requested Plenary to invite the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) or the General Auditing Commission (GAC), as independent body to commence a comprehensive audit of the Honorable House of Representatives.
“People should not think our action is provoked by fear of an ongoing or proposed audit. I personally have written two different communications to the Office of the Speaker requesting audit of the House, both at the Central Administration and the House of Representatives as whole. Those communications have sadly died in committee rooms”, he said.
Representative Womba said, as an auditor and a member of the Unity Party Legislative Caucus, he supports transparency in government at all levels, as he and likeminded colleagues will never undermine any action that supports transparency, especially in the RESCUE GOVERNMENT.
Representative Womba called on those behind spreading the above mentioned fake propaganda to desist and focused on the substantive issues raised by him and his colleague.
He further called on his colleague and Presiding Officer of the Legislature, Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa to listen to the voice of Majority members of the House of Representatives who have declared a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in him and rescues him in order to save his face, adding that Speaker Koffa has lost the Majority and public trust.
