Monrovia – Defending Liberia Upper women’s league champions Determine Girls unbeaten run came to end when newly promoted Upper Women’s Division side, Bushrod Queens secured a surprised, 2-1 victory over the champions at Tusa Field.

The girls from Bushrod Island win over Determine Girls’ ended the three times Liberian champions ten-game unbeaten streak in the league, after 11 rounds of matches.

Bushrod Queens’ performance in the league can be credited to the leadership of Mr. Teddy Dahn, who took over as the club’s President and CEO after purchasing the team when they were still known as Cocky FC in the Lower Women’s League.

During the 2023/2024 Lower Women’s League season, Bushrod Queens secured promotion to the Upper Women’s League on the final match day, which a point nel against Nimba County-based Dolakeh FC, who were also competing for promotion. Bushrod Queens triumphed 2-1, sealing their spot in the top tier of women’s football in Liberia.

Following their rebranding to Bushrod Queens Football Club in July 2024, the team made an impressive Upper Women’s League debut on October 20th with a historic 2-1 win over Earth Angels, the most successful club in the competition, at Northstar Stadium in Mount Barclay. This victory made a bold statement and announced their arrival in the top flight.

Mr. Dahn’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in the club’s progress. His ambition to lead the team to challenge for the league title this season has been reflected in his strategic signings.

Notable additions, including Liberia’s Albertee Lombeh from Blanco FC, Nigerian players Happiness Chiwendu, Ruth Zara Peter, and star forward Mary Kieh, have strengthened the squad and contributed to their recent success.

These signings have helped position Bushrod Queens as one of the league’s standout teams.

With their remarkable debut in the Upper Women’s League, Bushrod Queens now sit in 4th place and are the first team to defeat Determine Girls this season after the entire first phase of the league.

Looking ahead to the second phase, which resumes in January, the team is expected to bolster their squad further as they aim to challenge for major silverware, despite still being somewhat underrated in the league.
