Liberia: Doe Resigns As Liberia Chess Federation Treasurer Amid Controversy

by lnn

Doe announced at a previous press conference that Karyah’s resignation would not be accepted due to the substantial debt incurred under his leadership.

Monrovia– Martin Doe, who accused the President of the Liberia Chess Federation (LCF) Thomas Karyah of corruption and running the Federation without the involvement of other elected officials, has resigned from his role as Treasurer.

Doe announced at a previous press conference that Karyah’s resignation would not be accepted due to the substantial debt incurred under his leadership.

Despite this, Doe submitted his resignation letter early Friday, November 22, 2024, in all the LCF chatrooms, following several resolutions and proposals aimed at restoring stability and fostering progress within the federation.

In his resignation letter, Doe expressed his regret at having to step down, saying it’s a decision he made with a heavy heart.

“I am grateful to all stakeholders, especially our ministers who fought hard in bringing a lasting solution to the crises among us leaders and also exercised their distinct hospitality of patience with us during said meetings,” Doe wrote.

Doe thanked those who motivated him during his two-year tenure as Treasurer and acknowledged the numerous opportunities he got in   learning and professional growth he experienced over his eight-year involvement with the LCF.

“Let me say thanks to those whose motivations kept me going in exercising my responsibility for the two years spent as Treasurer of the LCF,” he added.

As part of his responsibilities, Doe also turned over US$4,540.00 and the UBA cheque book to the LCF leadership.

Meanwhile, despite his resignation, Doe assured that he remains a committed member of the LCF and is available to assist during the transition period.

He expressed his best wishes for the continued success of the federation’s leadership in the coming years. “I remain a member and will be available for any further assistance while as a member and even during this transition,” Doe stated.
