This incident marks the second time in recent weeks that citizens have retaliated against the fire service due to the delayed arrival of emergency response teams.
The fire truck traveled a distance of 45 kilometers from Sanniquellie to Ganta in an attempt to assist those affected by the blaze, but residents expressed their frustration over its late response at the scene.
Reports indicate that the attack on the fire truck stemmed from the citizens’ dissatisfaction with its timing. Just days prior, a similar incident occurred in the Pearson Community, where residents also confronted the fire truck for arriving late and demanded it leave the area.
Despite the truck being intended to bolster emergency services in the region, some community members have reacted negatively to its presence.
The Victims of the fire in the Congo community, however, stated they were unaware of the cause of the blaze, as they were not present at the time.
The four houses affected by the fire are situated close together, compounding the damage from the incident.
This situation raises concerns about community relations and the effectiveness of emergency response in Nimba County.
