Speaking to journalists at his residence shortly after his release, Foko reiterated his commitment to justice and accused the Joseph Nyuma Boakai administration of undermining the rule of law.
“I want to assure my people and the Koffa Bloc that my dedication to advocating for justice for all Liberians remains unshaken. This government may continue to violate the rule of law, but I will stand firm to ensure that justice is served to everyone, regardless of their background or status,” Foko stated.
Representative Foko’s comments came after what he described as two alarming incidents earlier in the week. According to Foko, armed men in two police vehicles surrounded his home on two separate occasions before he voluntarily presented himself to the police on Wednesday.
He explained that he received an invitation from the police via WhatsApp but was disturbed by the aggressive approach of the security forces.
“These actions by the police were unnecessary and only fueled suspicion about their true intentions. I decided it was best to visit the LNP Headquarters voluntarily, along with a colleague, to avoid further escalations,” he stressed.
Foko used the opportunity to laud his supporters for their solidarity during the ordeal.
“I am deeply grateful to all those who stood by me, especially in the face of intimidation and attempts to silence me. Your support has been my strength, and I will continue to fight for you,” he said.
The Montserrado lawmaker also called on the government to reflect on its actions, emphasizing the need to uphold justice and fairness in its dealings with opposition voices.
The police investigation into Foko’s case remains unclear, as authorities have not yet released an official statement on the matter.
However, his voluntary appearance at the LNP Headquarters and his subsequent release have added to ongoing political tensions in the country.
Foko supporters in separate remarks noted that his invitation by the police, highlights growing concerns about political interference in the country’s security apparatus, with calls for reforms gaining momentum among civil society groups and opposition leaders.
Foko, who is the main apex of an ongoing Capitol Building fire incident investigation, assured the public of his commitment to upholding the rule of law as he still undergoes investigation.
Before his appearance at the LNP Headquarters, Representative Foko, responding to a request from the police regarding a statement he made months ago, emphasized his respect for the justice system and his obligation as a public servant to remain accountable.
“I wish to inform the public that I have arrived at the headquarters of the Liberian National Police (LNP) following their request for my interaction regarding a statement I made several months ago. As a law-abiding citizen, I respect the processes of the justice system and remain committed to ensuring that any inquiry or investigation is conducted by the law and due process.
Throughout my time in public service, I have always prioritized the safety and well-being of our citizens, and I strongly believe in the importance of maintaining peace and order in our communities. It is in this spirit that I am engaging with the Liberian National Police today, hoping to contribute in any way that might be necessary to support their efforts in ensuring accountability and justice,” Foko posted on his Facebook page.
He stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law and expressed confidence in the integrity of the Liberian National Police.
“I trust that the LNP, as an institution charged with upholding the rule of law, will carry out this investigation in a fair, independent, and impartial manner,” he noted.
“I hope that these processes will not be influenced by political considerations, as the pursuit of justice should remain above all political and personal interests.”
Representative Foko further highlighted his long-standing dedication to the safety and well-being of Liberians, reaffirming his belief in justice and accountability as cornerstones of good governance.
He said every Liberian deserves to live in a society where their safety is guaranteed, and the rule of law is upheld without exception, underscoring his commitment to contributing meaningfully to the investigation.
While the nature of the police inquiry has not been disclosed, Representative Foko assured his constituents and supporters that his actions have always been guided by a commitment to Liberia’s peace and progress.
Foko, at the same time called on Liberians to join efforts to strengthen the nation’s democracy.
