Liberia: House Holds Three-day Legislative Reform Forum 2024

The Legislative capacity building training is an initiative of the House leadership in partnership with European Union, Sweden Sverige, Irish Aid, UNDP and UN Women.

Monrovia – The Honorable House of Representatives- HOR, is expected to officially begin a three-day legislative Reform Forum 2024, at Farmington Hotel in Margibi County.

A release issued by the Press Bureau says, the three days constitute Thursday, June 20, 2024, through Sunday, June 23, 2024 respectively.

The gathering will be held under the theme: Responsive Lawmaking, Proactive Oversight and people centered representation.

The Legislative capacity building training is an initiative of the House leadership in partnership with European Union, Sweden Sverige, Irish Aid, UNDP and UN Women.

The release says the forum seeks to highlight Expected outcome, Shared understanding of the agenda and induction context and scope, Identification of specific expectations of the members and possible adjustment to the agenda and Introduction to Liberia’s legislative system.

It maintains that Legislators will have a clearer understanding of their roles, duties, and responsibilities within the legislative framework, Engagement with stakeholders, Greater trust and cooperation between the legislature and stakeholders, leading to more constructive and positive interactions.

Additionally, the gathering will underscore an overview of the New Elections Law- Better engagement with relevant stakeholders, including the National Elections Commission (NEC) and the Legislature, to ensure a coordinated and inclusive approach to electoral reforms.

Meanwhile, all 73 Members of the House of Representatives and invited stakeholders are to be in attendance.
