Monrovia-The secretary General of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) Calvin Diggs has described the victory of female national basketball U-18 team over the All Stars University team as a good beginning of the rebuilding process of the female national basketball team for international competitions.

Mr. Calvin Diggs in an interview with FrontPage Africa Newspaper over the weekend at the Sports Commission on Broad Street after the female national basketball squad dumped the All Stars 40 to 26 points in a friendly encounter said the performance of the national team was encouraging.
“The victory was a good improvement for the women U-18 team and this just ended game was their first after the FIBA tournament in July 2023 so we are glad that the team is still together and we are able to continue our process of rebuilding our female national basketball team and the athletes performances also proved to us that they are picking up in the game.”Diggs said.
He added that the Lone Star female U-18 friendly encounter is just the beginning of their many friendly encounters to come and assured the athletes that the LBA is committed to arranging more friendly matches for the team so that they can gain more skills that could help them improve.
Mr. Diggs highlighted that if the Lone Star U-18 basketball team can score 14 points, it shows that the players are gaining more skills from the training they are undergoing.
He however called on parents of the athletes to continue encouraging their kids because it will improve them for future encounters.
Meanwhile, the LBA Secretary General has stressed that the Lone Star youth male and female U-16 athletes that just completed their FIBA National youth camp training have started early preparation for the FIBA/AFROBA basket Youth 16 tournament expected to take place either in , Togo, Ghana or Liberia.
“The FIBA/AFROBA Basket Youth 16 tournament will be held in May of 2025 either in Togo, Ghana or Liberia and has just assured our U-18 athletes of LBA fullest support for their training programs; we can assure our U-16 athletes of the same support because we want to prepare all of them for the challenges ahead of them in international competitions.”
