Heading into the 2025 County Meet, hosts Bong County coach Samuel Sumo men were heavily fancied to go all the way and secure a win in their first game of the competition but they lost on home soil 1-0 to Grand Bassa.
Bong County, who are desperate to remain in the competition, need nothing less than a win to stand a chance of progressing to the next stage depending on the last day’s results.
Bomi, who were held by Maryland County to a goalless draw in their opening match, will feel satisfied to deny Bong County a win and get close to the quarterfinals.
With their County Meet hopes already on the line, Bong must now avoid defeat against Bomi, who have managed a point in their opening match.
Meanwhile, Group A leaders Grand Bassa County will come face to face with Maryland County in the day’s other match.
A win for Bassa will seal their qualification, while a win for Maryland will open up the group.
In other matches to be played former champions Lofa who were held to a draw by Gbarpolu County on the opening day needed a win against Sinoe to keep their dreams alive.
Hosts Sinoe secured all three points in their opening match against Rivercess and needed a win to see them through to the quarterfinals.
Gbarpolu will have a tough task when they face Rivercess, who are also desperate to collect their first win of the tournament.
In Zwedru, Grand Gedeh, who secured a 2-1 win over Grand Kru County, will be seeking to extend their lead at top of Group B when they meet Montserrado County in the early kick-off, while Margibi, following a 1-1 draw with Montserrado County, will face Grand Kru County.
In Robertsports, Grand Cape Mount County, defending Champions River Gee will face title contenders Nimba County.
River Gee will be seeking to pick up their first County Meet win since they lifted the trophy but have a tough team to play in Nimba who already secured three points from Cape Mount.
A win or draw for Nimba will see them make it to the next stage of the tournament, while River Gee will need a win to avoid going into the last day in a fight with hosts Cape Mount who will need a win at all cost to qualify.
