Liberia-The political tension in the House of Representatives has taken a different posture with the embattled Speaker, Cllr. Fonati Koffa describing Vice President Jeremiah Koun ‘s recent assertion on Spoon Talk that he negotiated for him and President Joseph Boakai to resign as a lie.

Speaking on the Soon Talk show recently, Vice President Koung asserted that the embattled speaker was negotiating for the president to intervene with several options that will lead to his resignation.

But reacting to Vice President Koung, embattled Speaker Koffa on his official social media page indicated. “I listened to the distorted and inaccurate comments made by Vice President Koung on Spoon TV a few minutes ago. At no time did I negotiate with the Vice President nor the President to resign,”

According to him, his position is and has always been, let’s return to legislative normalcy by ensuring that his removal should be in the legal interruptions, restoring the rightful committee heads, returning to chambers, and discussing all matters, including their complaints, in session.

The embattled speaker further alleged that Vice President Koung asked for a white ballot for Richard Koon, the budget passage, and the committee discussion after a new speaker. He disclosed that during the meeting all of those requests by the Vice President, he rejected them and vowed not to resign as Speaker.

Koffa told the public that he and the president including the vice president did not agree, and the next day, the Minister of Justice gave the opinion on the court ruling, which was written for him. “But the most trending thing is that the Vice President’s appearance and inappropriate comments on a radio talk show exposed his hand as the principal mastermind of the whole unconstitutional saga,” Koffa asserted.

Speaker Koffa further indicated that he will remain firm on the side of the law stressing that the executive can continue to ignore the rule of law, but he will not waver.
