Monrovia, Liberia, October 17, 2024 – President Joseph Boikai has directed the General Services Agency (GSA) to take custody of a luxury SUV recently purchased by former Commerce Minister Amin Modad.

This decision follows Modad’s recent resignation amid scrutiny over the vehicle’s procurement, which totaled over US$90,000, significantly exceeding the government’s estimated cost for such purchases.

Modad resigned following weeks of controversies surrounding the purchase of the vehicle, characterized by a lack of transparency and accountability.

In a statement on Tuesday, Robert Wilson, the GSA’s Deputy Director for Operations, confirmed that the vehicle is now in their possession.

Mr. Wilson said the GSA has begun placing temporary plates on the SUV and is preparing it for official use to accommodate VIPs visiting Liberia.

Wilson, who emphasized the GSA’s commitment to executing the President’s mandate, stated that all necessary protocols for the vehicle’s usage will be finalized by Monday. Editing by Jonathan Browne
