Margibi County- Liberia took a crucial step forward in healthcare development on Friday, December 20, 2024, when President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., broke ground for the National Clinical Diagnostic and Treatment Laboratory near the Edward Binyah Kesselly (EBK) Military Barracks in Margibi County.

The landmark project is a partnership between the Liberian Government and the People’s Republic of China and is expected to revolutionize diagnostic and treatment capabilities in the country.
Sponsored by the Chinese Government and implemented by China Aid Liberia, the facility aims to address long-standing challenges in the healthcare sector and improve public health outcomes.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Boakai noted that the laboratory will have a transformative impact on the nation’s healthcare system.
“The construction of this laboratory is not just about building another physical structure; it is about building a future wherein every Liberian has access to high-quality healthcare services. This facility will serve as a beacon of hope and progress for our people,” President Boakai averred.
He extended gratitude to the Chinese Government for its steadfast support, highlighting the strong partnership between the two nations.
The new facility will serve both military personnel and civilians, offering cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment services.
President Boakai commented that the laboratory will also play a vital role in addressing public health challenges, improving emergency response, and bolstering healthcare access across Liberia.
“This laboratory will not only serve our armed forces but will also be a critical resource for anyone in need,” President Boakai added.
The project, set to meet global healthcare standards, represents a tangible demonstration of the Government’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of all Liberians.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of National Defense, the Armed Forces of Liberia, and other key stakeholders who played instrumental roles in the project’s development.
Construction on the state-of-the-art facility is expected to begin immediately, with officials expressing optimism about its timely completion.
Once operational, the laboratory will enhance the nation’s ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
