Liberia: President Boakai Reaffirms Commitment to Energy Sector during High Level World Bank Delegation Visit

Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to prioritizing the energy sector as a cornerstone for Liberia’s development. 

Speaking during a high-level courtesy visit by a World Bank delegation at the Executive Mansion, President Boakai emphasized that no nation can achieve sustainable development without a vibrant and reliable energy sector.

He further noted that his Government will work in collaboration with international partners to implement strategic measures aimed at repositioning Liberia’s energy sector for the benefit of future generations.

President Boakai expressed appreciation for the continued collaboration and support from the World Bank, noting that such partnerships are essential to transforming Liberia into a stable, prosperous, and inclusive nation for future generations.

Earlier, the Head of the 8-member World Bank Delegation, Mr. Ousmane Diagana, Vice President for Western and Central Africa, buttressed by Mr. Ethiopis Tafara, Regional Vice President for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), highlighted the strong partnership between the World Bank and Liberia.

In his remarks, Mr. Diagana announced plans for a new National Development Country Partnership Framework designed to deepen engagement with Liberia. This, he noted, will focus on fostering private sector growth and sustainable development.

The Delegation also pointed out that the launch of the Agriculture Roads Rule of Law l Education Sanitation & Tourism (ARREST) Agenda will serve as the foundation for implementing World Bank programs in Liberia.

The World Bank delegation underscored the importance of their visit, highlighting the longstanding relationship between the Institution and Liberia. They assured President Boakai of their commitment to working closely with this Administration to advance transformative initiatives that will improve the lives of Liberians.

Liberian Government officials companying the World Bank Delegation to the Executive Mansion were Minister of Finance and Development Planning Augustine K. Ngafuan, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Sylvester M. Grigsby, Presidential Economic Advisors Sahr Johnny and Morley Kamara, Deputy Minister of Finance for Economic Management Dehpue Zuoh.
