Monrovia-Montserrado District Number Nine Representative, Frank Saah Foko, has voluntarily turned himself over to the Liberia National Police (LNP) following a contentious investigation into remarks he allegedly made about burning a legislative session.

Representative Foko appeared at LNP headquarters on Thursday, December 19, after two prior unsuccessful attempts by law enforcement to secure his arrest.

His surrender was marked by a show of solidarity from his colleagues, including embattled House Speaker Jonathan Fonati Kofa, who joined other lawmakers in accompanying him.

The investigation stems from a fire that broke out in the Joint Chambers of the Legislature on Wednesday, December 18.

The incident caused significant concern and speculation, with authorities moving swiftly to address any possible connection between the fire and Representative Foko’s alleged remarks.

LNP Inspector General informed reporters on Wednesday, December 18, that the legislator was invited for questioning to clarify the context and intent of his statement.

However, the details of the interrogation remain undisclosed.

The fire in the legislature has raised alarm about security and accountability within Liberia’s governing institutions.

As such, Representative Foko’s remarks have drawn scrutiny from both the public and his peers in government.

The fire itself, which disrupted legislative activities, is also under independent investigation to determine its origin and whether foul play was involved.

The investigation is still ongoing and the Liberia National Police is expected to provide an update, following the investigation.
