Rep. Norman, who had previously supported Speaker Fonati Koffa and called for members of the Majority Bloc to accord the Speaker due process, announced his decision during a session in the joint chamber.

“I made this decision in the interest of the Liberian people and to ensure the Speaker is given due process,” he said. “The Majority Bloc had 43 members, but with my colleague Rep. Benson and me joining, the number has increased to 45.”

Earlier, Rep. Benson made a dramatic entrance to the joint chambers, waving the Liberian flag to a standing ovation and declaring that his move was “for the sake of Liberia.”

The crossovers of Reps. Norman and Benson mark a significant boost for the Majority Bloc as it works toward securing the two-thirds majority needed to unseat Speaker Koffa.
