Greenville, Sinoe County – Sinoe County has terminated the contracts of goalkeeper Marvin Sumo and goalkeeper trainer Claudius Parjibo over allegations of bribery and match-fixing following a controversial match against Lofa County on Wednesday.

The game, part of the ongoing county sports meet, ended in a 2-1 defeat for Sinoe County, despite their initial lead. Lofa’s Emmanuel Flomo equalized, and James Tarpah clinched the victory with a decisive strike that many Sinoe supporters believed Sumo should have easily saved. The incident sparked accusations that Sumo deliberately allowed the goal.

Sumo, who previously played for third-division side Pepper FC, has been under scrutiny, as has Parjibo, nicknamed “Hundred,” who currently serves as a goalkeeper trainer for Sinoe NPA, a football club coached by Lofa County’s Kollie Korvy. Reports alleged that both men left Sinoe’s camp in Greenville late at night to visit Lofa County’s camp ahead of the match.

Sources claim the late-night visit was part of an attempt to influence the outcome of the January 15, 2025, game between Sinoe and Lofa County.

Upon receiving these allegations, Crayton Oldman Duncan, chairman of Sinoe County’s steering committee, initiated an investigation. Initially, Sumo and Parjibo denied leaving the camp before the match. However, after Lofa’s rapid two-goal comeback within five minutes, further concerns arose, prompting a second investigation.

During the subsequent inquiry, Parjibo reportedly admitted to leaving the camp with Sumo but denied that their actions were related to match-fixing or visiting Lofa County officials. Nevertheless, the admissions led the county coach, in consultation with the technical staff, to expel both men from the team.

Sinoe County is set to play its final group match against Gbarpolu County on Saturday, January 18. A win or draw will secure the Green and White boys a place in the quarterfinals.
