The event, organized by the Africa Surfing Confederation, celebrates the spirit of African surfing while fostering pathways for local surfers to qualify for global competitions such as the World Surfing League and the Olympic Games.

Celebrating African Surfing
The tour, which debuted in Liberia in May 2024, was a important step for African surfing. Hosted in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia’s first international surfing tournament showcased the country’s pristine beaches and incredible waves, drawing participants and spectators from across the continent.

“This tour is not just about surfing. It’s about promoting Africa as a global surfing destination and celebrating our diverse cultures and music,” said Oumar Seye, President of the Africa Surf Tour and the Africa Surfing Confederation. He expressed pride in hosting the closing ceremony at his resort, calling it a dream come true.

Liberia’s Representation
Liberia was represented at the closing ceremony by surfers Mark Tregbe and Samon Massaly, along with Coach Morris Sheriff, Judge Brahema Gross, and LSA President Naquetta Ricks. Their participation marked a continuation of Liberia’s strong showing in May, as the team builds momentum to compete at higher levels.

“We are grateful to the Liberian government, our donors, and supporters for enabling us to compete internationally,” Ricks said during the event. “Liberia is proud to be part of this historic moment, and we look forward to showcasing our incredible waves and talent next year.”

A Platform for Growth
The Africa Surf Tour is more than a competition; it’s a platform to elevate African surfers and their skills. It aims to highlight Africa’s untouched beaches, promote tourism, and encourage youth involvement in the sport.

“Participants and coaches are already excited about returning to Liberia’s breathtaking waves for next year’s competition,” Ricks added.

Six Nations Unite Through Surfing
This year’s tour featured participants from six countries, with each nation bringing unique talent and enthusiasm. The cultural exchange, combined with thrilling surfing displays, underscored the unifying power of sport.

As the ceremony concluded in Dakar, hopes remained high for the future of African surfing. Liberia’s delegation, emboldened by their achievements, left with renewed determination to develop the sport at home and inspire the next generation of surfers.

The Africa Surf Tour has proven to be more than just an event—it’s a movement, empowering African surfers to rise to global prominence while celebrating the continent’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
