In a statement issued by UBCAA National President, Caimon Joe Gbamokollie, on December 26, 2024, the association expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and solidarity with survivors still grappling with the devastating aftermath.
The statement highlighted the need for transparency regarding the $450,000 pledged by the World Bank and demanded a full report on the use of resources allocated to aid the victims.
“This tragedy must not be forgotten,” President Gbamokollie stated. “We urge our leaders to act swiftly to ensure that every penny meant for the victims reaches them without delay or mismanagement.”
UBCAA commended its members, donors, and partners, including Global Health Ministries and Club Kwategeh of Kentucky, for their contributions during the initial crisis response. These efforts enabled the association to provide over $25,000 in medical and food aid to affected families. UBCAA also recognized the Association of Totota Citizens in the Americas for its continued support to families in need.
As survivors continue to face physical and emotional challenges, UBCAA appealed to local and international partners to prioritize initiatives that strengthen safety standards, improve emergency preparedness, and build community resilience to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
President Gbamokollie also announced that UBCAA would engage Bong County leaders and the Government of Liberia in the coming weeks to seek clarity on resource allocation and ensure justice for those impacted.
“This is about justice, accountability, and rebuilding hope for the victims and their families,” Gbamokollie concluded. “The memory of the Totota tragedy must drive us to protect vulnerable communities and ensure that no one is left to face such devastation without support.”
