Late Sunday, the Office of House Speaker Koffa reported a death threat allegedly sent to the Speaker via an unknown number, warning him to resign or face fatal consequences.

The threatening statement read: “Koffa, the Speaker job is for the UP. Our party won’t sit there and reward its enemies. We will kill you if we have to. Hint to the wise is sufficient. Resign now!!!”

The Unity Party, in a statement issued on Monday, said it unequivocally condemns any form of threat or violence against any individual, especially against a public official.

“As a party rooted in the principles of peace and reconciliation, we firmly state that the Unity Party, under the leadership of H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., would never resort to threatening the life of any Liberian. These allegations are baseless and lack merit,” the party said.

It added: “To the Liberian people and the international community, let it be made clear: the Unity Party is committed to fostering a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic Liberia. Any suggestion otherwise is an attempt to undermine our credibility and commitment to national unity.”

The party recalled that on October 18 of this year, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., had the distinct honor of meeting His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican Apostolic Palace. The delegation for this historic meeting included Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa. The party noted that this event underscores its commitment to unity and collaboration, even across political divides.

“We urge all Liberians to remain steadfast in rejecting divisive narratives and to continue working toward a peaceful and prosperous Liberia.”

Meanwhile, the alleged threat against Speaker Koffa has sparked widespread concern amid growing political tensions at the Liberian Legislature.
