Speaking to reporters during a brief visit to the Capitol on Wednesday, President Boakai revealed that he had directed Justice Minister Oswald Tweh to launch a full investigation into the incident. “I have authorized the Minister of Justice to lead an investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice,” the President stated.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, President Boakai’s remarks hinted at the possibility of foul play. “We will not condone hooliganism or any act intended to undermine the operations of our government,” he said firmly.

The fire, which broke out early Wednesday morning, engulfed the joint chamber. Firefighters faced challenges containing the blaze due to limited equipment and resources, resulting in extensive damage.

The President emphasized the importance of the Capitol Building as a symbol of Liberia’s democracy and pledged to ensure its restoration.
