LMA Commends Past Gov’t, Japan for Completing Gbarnga Market | Business

Gbarnga, Bong County-The Liberia Marketing Association’s Bong County chapter Superintendent, Madam Tumue Allen, has expressed appreciation to the past government of President George Weah and the people of Japan for their collaboration in completing the Gbarnga Central Market project.

The project, which was initiated during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and was commonly referred to as the “Sirleaf Market,” was initially launched in 2013 to construct a modern market center in Gbarnga, Bong County. It was launched at a cost of US$500,000.

Despite previous delays in its completion, the project was successfully finalized under the current administration with support from the Japanese government. The completion of the market has been viewed as a significant development for Bong County, with a direct cost estimated at US $867,434.00 and a total cost of $951,934.32.

The project, overseen by the Japanese counterpart Value Fund Secretarial, includes essential features such as storage facilities, offices, and toilets to enhance the trading environment for local market vendors.

Madam Tumue Allen highlighted the positive impact of the completed market on the local community, particularly women engaged in market activities. She emphasized the importance of non-partisan cooperation in advancing development initiatives in Bong County and expressed gratitude for the support received from both the past government and the Japanese benefactors.

The dedication of the Gbarnga Central Market is scheduled for June 19, 2024, with expectations of providing a conducive business environment for market women in the region.

The LMA authorities in Bong County have affirmed their commitment to supporting market women and facilitating their economic empowerment through various business initiatives. The successful completion of the market project has been hailed as a significant step towards advancing economic opportunities and fostering community development in Bong County, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in realizing positive outcomes for local populations.
