LNBA President, Others Call for Collective Action to Strengthen Rule of Law | News

The President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA), Cllr. Sylvester Rennie, has joined other partners in advocating for collective action to enhance the justice system and strengthen the rule of law.

Speaking at the Justice and Rule of Law Global Forum to Foster Inclusive and Sustainable Development, organized by the World Bank’s Governance Global Practice at its headquarters in Washington DC, USA, Rennie noted that effective justice institutions are drivers of accountability and citizens’ confidence safeguard investment and property rights.

“These stimulate economic growth, thereby laying the foundations for good governance and prosperous society,” a dispatch from the US quotes the LNBA president as saying.

Rennie was among the partners that called for collective action to strengthen the justice system and the rule of law throughout individual countries, the statement indicates.

The two-day event was held on June 25 and 26 with the theme “Justice and Rule of Law Global Forum to Foster Inclusive and Sustainable Development.”

The forum aimed to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to emphasize the pivotal role of justice and the rule of law in driving development and promoting concerted efforts towards justice reform.

Attendees included representatives from various sectors, such as governments, judiciaries, the private sector, academia, civil society, foundations, and international organizations working in the field of justice and the rule of law.

The event highlighted the significance of robust justice institutions and the rule of law in advancing the World Bank Group’s mission to alleviate extreme poverty and enhance shared prosperity on a sustainable planet.

In a related development, the LNBA is also participating in the general conference of the West African Bar Association (WABA) in Cotonou, Benin Republic, with representation from its National Secretary General, Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah. The WABA Annual Conference for 2024 is scheduled from June 25 to 28, 2024.
