—- To support Liberian pupils in the “Shoes for School” initiative

In a heartfelt gesture to identify with schoolchildren in rural and underprivileged communities, Lonestar Cell MTN has donated one hundred pairs of rain boots to pupils at an orphanage and a school in both Montserrado and Margibi Counties.

The donation, made under the auspices of MTN’s Employees Mental Health and Well-Being program, took place recently on June 25, 2024, at the Christ Life Mission in Walker Town, Careysburg district, and the Royal Learning Center (RLC) in Forzohn Town, lower Margibi.

Dubbed “Shoes for School” the donation is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) extension of MTN’s Global Move Day celebration.

MTN Global Move Day entails a set of activities geared towards improving employees’ wellness and mental health. It is mandated by the MTN group across all MTN operations across the globe.

The “Shoes for School” initiative is a benevolent act that aims to ensure that every child has access to proper footwear, a fundamental yet often overlooked necessity for attending school regularly and comfortably, the benefactor said.

Also donated to these institutions were Lonestar Cell MTN-branded school bags.

Making remarks at the donation ceremony at both locations, the head of Human Resources at Lonestar Cell MTN, Mrs. Johnett D. Horace, said the donation is a project under Global Move Day, where all operations are mandated to donate shoes to children in rural and less fortunate communities.

She added that due to the celebration falling in the rainy season; they have decided to provide rain boots to enable the kids to take easier and healthier walks to and from school.

Horace extended heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the CEO and management of Lonestar Cell MTN to the institutions and the children for welcoming her and her team to their premises and pledged that it is Lonestar Cell MTN’s wish to continue to meet the needs of the children and the institutions.

Representatives of the recipient institutions include Mr. Moses D. Nimely of Christ Life Mission Orphanage and Terries P. Gargar, founder and VPI of the Royal Learning Center.

Nimely expressed deep appreciation to Lonestar Cell MTN for the donation and emphasized how such gestures of kindness and support uplift the spirits of orphans and encourage them to pursue education and personal growth.

The founder and VPI of the Royal Learning Center, Terries P. Gargar, and the clan chief of Forzohn town, John F. Karnga, both welcomed and extolled Lonestar Cell MTN for the donation and added, “We highly appreciate this, and we are hoping that you will continue to visit us.”

Lonestar Cell MTN continues to demonstrate its commitment to education through a series of educational support programs, including industrial attachment internships, graduate trainee programs, school supply donations, and digital learning initiatives.
