27-year-old Blama Kromah has been charged with illegal smuggling of controlled substances and drugs while visiting the Monrovia Central Prison.
Monrovia, November 15, 2024/ Authorities at the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP) arrested Suspect Kromah, a resident of Freeport Community, Bushrod Island, for possession of controlled substances and drugs while recently attempting to smuggle them into the Central Prison, posing as a visitor.
He was apprehended with the substances during search conducted by correction officers as part of routine safety and security measures instituted at the prison.
He has been arraigned and charged with unlicensed possession of controlled substances following a writ of arrest issued by Stipendiary Magistrate L. Ben Barco of the Monrovia City Court.
Drugs arrested include 40 tablets of Tramadol, seven parcels of a substance believed to be cocaine, one plastic bag of marijuana, and one plastic bag of a substance believed to be Kush.
Illegal possession and smuggling of controlled substances is in violation of sections 14.85 and 14.89 of the New Drug Law of Liberia. Mr. Kromah has been forwarded to court for prosecution.
Meanwhile, Assistant Minister for Correction and Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Justice, Atty. Gabriel F. Ndupellar has warned potential illegal drug smugglers and visitors at the Monrovia Central Prison, emphasizing that such unlawful activities will not be tolerated and that anyone caught will be prosecuted in accordance with the Laws of Liberia.
