Mines and Energy Minister, Mr. Wilmot J.M. Paye has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the fullest fulfillment of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s vision of capacity building and youth empowerment.

Certainly, the Mines and Energy Minister points out that capacity is extremely indispensable to the progress of the Ministry and the developmental agenda of this government headed by President Boakai.

Because of this, he vowed that the Ministry under his guidance and the “progressive team” of leaders will leave no stone unturned in exerting all efforts that promote capacity building initiatives and youth empowerment.

The Minister made these comments Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at occasion marking the official signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry and the state-run University of Liberia (UL) for human resource development.

The Mines and Energy Minister disclosed that the MOU also captures program of mentorship and that it also provide opportunities for youth.

“The Ministry is very passionate about signing this MOU because it’s about capacity building, which is a key component of His Excellency, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., that we are committed to supporting as a ministry,” said Minister Paye.

“The President is keen on capacity building, and this MOU is in line with that vision. Capacity building is extremely indispensable, because this aims to prepare the Ministry and the sector. But in all this, there is a need for succession plan, which is very important to keep this alive. We need a pool of people who will transform the country.

“Our focus is to initiate programs that will empower our people. We need to create our own pool of people by training them, and this is why we decided to foster a partnership with the University of Liberia to help us carry out this mandate that supports the President’s vision. It is important to know that, if we don’t have the pool of trained people we can’t regulate the sector.”

In line with this quest, Minister Paye has made an open request to the administration of the UL to provide the names of its best brains (students) whenever there is an opportunity for recruitment at the Mines and Energy Ministry.

In remarks, the Acting President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, lauded Minister Paye and his team for the opportunity, stating that the UL is the the natural place to start this partnership.

“The relationship between the Ministry of Mines and Energy, then Lands, Mines and Energy, dates far back, though there was no formal partnership of such signed. And so with this document, we commit to doing our part in the implementation process, including training of experts, holding of seminar and providing short-term courses,” added Dr. Conteh.
