Mother cuts 1-year-old daughter’s throat in Paynesville

Police are investigating a mother here for slashing the throat of her one-year-old daughter in their bedroom.

Paynesville, Liberia, January 13, 2025 – A woman believed to be in her 30s, Hannah Mulbah, has been arrested by Police for allegedly slitting the throat of her one-year, eight-month-old daughter in F-Sham Community, Soul Clinic, Paynesville.

The incident happened here on Friday, 10 January. Eyewitnesses reveal the suspect suffers from mental- disorder. She allegedly committed the act after instructing an elder child to go and buy food.

The child, identified as Annie Mulbah, was seen lying in a pool of blood in their bedroom before dwellers discovered her.

“We just hear screaming from the room, and when we rushed in to know what was happening, Hannah was nowhere to be found, and only the little girl was lying in a pool of blood,” a resident, Lorpo Shark, narrates.

“This woman we are talking about hasn’t been behaving normally in the head”, another resident, Passawe, adds.

Eyewitnesses further detail that Suspect Helena has been a very talkative person, showing signs of mental disorder.

Though what might have led to her action remains unknown, Police are probing the matter, while community dwellers have buried the remains of the infant.

The Grandfather of the deceased, Mr. Sam Kiamue, pleads with the Liberia National Police to swiftly investigate the incident. Editing by Jonathan Browne
