Monrovia – The Partnership for Environmental Actions on Climate Change and Ecosystem Protection (PEACCEP) Liberia Inc., in collaboration with Baastel and Climate Action Africa (CAA), has successfully concluded of its groundbreaking capacity-building workshop series aimed at enhancing the climate leadership of women-led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Liberia.
The workshop series, titled “Capacity Building Training on Mainstreaming Gender in Climate Dialogue and Actions in Liberia,” was conducted in two phases. The first training took place on June 24-25, 2024, at the Lutheran Compound Conference Room in Sinkor, Monrovia, and the second training was held in Kakata, Margibi County from June 27-28 at Survivors Aid International. The sessions collectively engaged 30 dedicated participants from various women-led CSOs across Liberia.
Key highlights and achievements include a comprehensive Agenda and Engaging Format. The two-day workshops were designed to provide a holistic understanding of integrating gender perspectives into climate action.
The agenda included expert presentations from renowned climate and gender specialists, interactive group activities fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing, and in-depth case studies showcasing successful gender-responsive climate initiatives. Participants actively engaged in discussions, enhancing their understanding of climate change, gender concepts, climate policy, and advocacy.
Another milestone include empowerment through technical assistance. Baastel’s technical assistance was instrumental in empowering women’s and youth CSOs to effectively advocate for gender-responsive climate policies. Participants learned to engage in climate dialogue processes and assume leadership roles in climate action. The capacity-building initiative aimed to ensure inclusive and equitable participation in climate policy formulation and implementation in Liberia.
Expert facilitation and partnership
In addition, CAA engaged Baastel, a Canadian international development consulting firm with extensive experience in sustainable development, to provide expert facilitation. This collaboration, alongside PEACCEP’s local expertise, created a robust training environment. The workshops marked a significant step forward in promoting gender-responsive climate action and leadership among women-led CSOs in Liberia.
Feedback and Future Prospects
Participants expressed high satisfaction with the training, highlighting the practical knowledge gained and the networking opportunities provided. Many expressed their commitment to applying the skills learned in their respective organizations to drive gender-responsive climate initiatives. The success of these workshops sets a precedent for future capacity-building programs aimed at fostering climate leadership in Liberia.
