Executive Mansion, Monrovia – Today, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., led a solemn gathering of government officials at the state funeral service held at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sinkor, Monrovia, to honor the life, legacy and service of the late Honorable Sumo Galakpai Kupee, former Senior Senator of Lofa County.
Senator Kupee’s untimely passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of Liberians, especially in Lofa County, where he dedicated much of his life to uplifting the community and nation.
Speaking on behalf of the Liberian Government, President Boakai, expressed deep condolences to Senator Kupee’s family, with a special acknowledgment to his widow.
“The late Senator Kupee was one of Liberia’s finest. It is unfortunate that we, as a people, have lost him at a time when his wisdom and leadership are needed the most,” President Boakai stated.
Throughout his career, President Boakai recalled, Senator Kupee served Liberia with distinction, holding various roles that underscored his commitment to the betterment of the nation.
The President, himself a towering statesman from Lofa County, noted that the fallen Legislator’s dedication to education was evident in his support for students unable to afford tuition at the University of Liberia, as well as his enduring impact on young Liberians serves as a testament to his compassionate leadership.
The President encouraged Liberians to honor Senator Kupee’s legacy by valuing and supporting those who serve the nation with distinction. He also urged the citizens of Lofa County to come together in unity during this time of grief, emphasizing that Senator Kupee’s memory should inspire peace and collaboration within the community.
“Liberia has great prospects ahead. Our challenge is to prioritize our nation and give our utmost to advance it. Let us take this moment to come together for the betterment of our beloved country,” President Boakai urged.
The Liberian Leader concluded by extending the Government’s heartfelt sympathy to the family, especially the Widow, Mrs. Marian Sandi Kupee, friends, and colleagues of the late Senator Sumo Kupee, noting that the Senator’s commitment, service, and contributions will forever be remembered as a proud legacy for Liberia and its people
