President Boakai Extols Unity and Inclusivity at the Opening of the 2025 National County Sports Mee – Global News Network Liberia

Robertsports, Grand Cape Mount County– President of the Republic of Liberia and Chief Patron of Sports H.E Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially inaugurated the 2025 National County Sports Meet (NCSM), the nation’s premier sporting event, under the theme “Inclusive Development through Sports.”

Speaking to a gathering of sports officials, athletes, and citizens, President Boakai proclaimed the event an instant success, citing the powerful echoes of national healing, peace, and unity resonating throughout the country.

“Inclusivity is the cornerstone of nation-building,” the President stated, emphasizing that this year’s theme underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to reconciliation, unity, and progress.

“The National County Sports Meet is more than a competition; it is a celebration of our shared aspirations, a symbol of our resilience, and a testament to the transformative power of sports,” the Chief Patron of Sports reminded Liberians.

He lauded the significant contributions of key stakeholders, including the National Legislature, traditional and community leaders, media practitioners, and event organizers, for their collaborative efforts in sustaining the County Meet as Liberia’s most cherished national event.

To the athletes, the President extended heartfelt message of encouragement, urging them to display discipline, patriotism, and accountability.  He urged, “As you take to the playing fields, gymnasiums, and tracks, know that the nation celebrates you. Compete fiercely, but let your sportsmanship remind us all that this event is a force for unity rather than division.”

The President also highlighted the broader role of sports as a driver of national development. “Sports is no longer just a pastime; it is a vital enabler of social cohesion, youth empowerment, sustainable peace, and economic growth. It unites us in moments of triumph and teaches us the value of perseverance in moments of challenge.”

Calling for good sportsmanship throughout the games, the President reminded all Liberians of the importance of fostering reconciliation, camaraderie, and national harmony. “Let us think Liberia, love Liberia, and build Liberia as we come together to celebrate this cherished tradition,” he urged.

He extended the nation’s gratitude to all who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the 2025 National County Sports Meet. As the games commence, the Presidency reaffirms the commitment to using sports as a tool for inclusive development and national unity.

The National County Sports Meet is Liberia’s flagship sporting festival, held annually to unite the nation through friendly competition among all 15 counties. The event reflects the spirit of patriotism and showcases the nation’s rich cultural and athletic heritage.  Male soccer and female kickball matches, involving squads from the15 counties, feature highly in the annual competition.
