Executive Mansion, Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on Saturday, December 7, 2024, visited the residence of the late former Vice President of Liberia, Honorable John D. Gray, to personally extend his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

The late Honorable Gray passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, following a period of illness in Monrovia. He was a devoted Deacon of Effort Baptist Church in Paynesville and a distinguished public servant who contributed significantly to the governance of Liberia.

Honorable Gray ascended to the position of Vice President during the transitional Blah-Gray Administration, formed after the resignation of Former President Charles G. Taylor in August 2003. His appointment followed the elevation of then Vice President Moses Zeh Blah to the presidency after the passing of Vice President Enoch Dogolea.

During his visit, President Boakai expressed deep gratitude for Honorable Gray’s exemplary service to Liberia. He highlighted the late statesman’s dedication to his country and his impactful leadership, both as Vice President and as a Senator of his county.

President Boakai extended words of comfort to the family, including the widow, Mrs. Laysiah Gray, and daughters, Mrs. Johnetta Zoe Gray Wento, Ms. Felecia C. Gray, Mrs. Precious S. Tilko, and Ms. Maima Gray. He urged them to draw strength from their faith and remain hopeful in the resilience of Liberia.

“Our nation has lost a patriot whose service and commitment to the people of Liberia will always be remembered,” President Boakai remarked. “May the legacy of Honorable Gray inspire us all to continue building a united and prosperous Liberia.”

The Government of Liberia mourns the passing of Honorable John D. Gray and stands with his family and loved ones during this time of grief.
