Gompa City, Nimba County – January 18, 2025, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., delivered a moving tribute to honor the memory of the late Senator Prince Yormie Johnson of Nimba County.

Speaking with deep sympathy for the Senator’s widow, family, friends, supporters, Vice President Koung, and the people of Nimba County, President Boakai reflected on the complexities and profound contributions of the late Senator’s life.

He acknowledged Senator Johnson as a figure of remarkable influence in Liberia’s political landscape. “Senator Prince Y. Johnson was a man of many complexities—someone whose life was shaped by the intricacies of our history. His role in Liberia’s political evolution was nothing short of impactful, and he will forever be etched in the annals of our national story,” the President remarked.

The President emphasized Senator Johnson’s political acumen and his ability to rally and inspire the people of Nimba County and beyond. “His leadership transcended regional lines, and he became a key figure in shaping our democratic process,” President Boakai said, recognizing the Senator’s formidable presence and dedication to public service.

In his later years, Senator Johnson took significant steps to promote peace and reconciliation in Liberia. As President Boakai noted, “One of his significant contributions to the nation before his passing was his public support for the establishment of a war crimes court for Liberia, which he endorsed as a senator by approving the Legislature’s Joint Resolution.”

President Boakai also reflected on the Senator’s spiritual journey, which saw him embrace his faith as a pastor and seek peace with God and his fellow Liberians. “This journey of spiritual reconciliation speaks to the universal longing for redemption and healing, resonating with all of us,” the President stated.

The President concluded his tribute by calling on Liberians to reflect on Senator Johnson’s legacy as an opportunity for unity and national healing.

“Though opinions may differ on his legacy, what we can all agree upon is that he played a significant part in Liberia’s journey—shaping our past, influencing our present, and leaving a mark on our future,” President Boakai remarked.

As Liberia bids farewell to one of its central historical figures, President Boakai encourages all Liberians to honor the late Senator’s memory by continuing the work of reconciliation and healing for the nation.
