Kakata, Liberia, July 4, 2024—The Financial Comptroller of the Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC), which was recently shut down in Margibi County, is urging students and young people of Liberia to make quality decisions that will improve their lives and the society in which they live.

Mr. Papi Glen Toto, a native of Totota, Bong County, said that while growing up, he thought life was very easy, as he saw in movies until he understood the reality of life.

Mr. Toto, who runs several businesses in Kakata, said he was focused on motivating students about their future so that they would become better and more successful leaders.

Speaking on the topic “Your decision is your destination” when he served as keynote speaker at the 65th Gala Anniversary of St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School in Kakata, he defined a decision as a course of action that is taken after careful and major consideration of a set of desires or things. According to him, one decision is quality, and another is emotional.

He cited a quality decision as a plan to continue to pursue higher education after graduating from high school because it benefits society and the individual.

On the other hand, he said an emotional decision is short-lived or only for a short time to meet certain desires, such as chasing an iPhone because of peer pressure.

He notes that some young people would prefer using the total cost of their businesses to get an iPhone just to impress others when the iPhone will not improve their market.

He continues that eventually, such a person would encounter problems such as school fees, house rent, graduation fees, and other major issues because they mortgaged the capital from their business for an iPhone, which is wrong.

He also reminded the students that decisions trigger consequences, so if they make a bad decision today, they will face consequences tomorrow.

Instead, Mr. Toto urges that students should live under the authority of God, as part of their decisions, learn to trust their feelings, which he explains has to do with faith and staying out of trouble.

He cited that teachers, doctors, engineers, lawyers, and other prominent people are making impacts in society today because of the decisions they made in the early stages of their lives. Editing by Jonathan Browne
